I designed and built this site using Ruby on Rails to learn more about web technologies and practice what skills I had already developed. My sister, Melysa Reiss, and I will try our best to update this site regularly with cool projects, interesting blog posts, and more content for you to enjoy. Please take a few seconds to register if you can and feel free to contact me at any time to inform me of errors or just poor design. This is a chance for me to learn so don't hesitate to be educational, (though I hope you won't be mean).
I'll make my next post my first post with some real content, but until then, I'll put down some information about myself, and Melysa: the Reisses.
Melysa and I are originally from Los Angeles, CA, although Melysa, nearly three years my elder, enjoyed two years of fine Cleveland living before coming to Los Angeles where I was born. Our family stayed in Los Angeles (more specifically Northridge) for nearly 14 years before relocating to Ridgefield, CT where Melysa and I attended high school and received our education in the New England culture. While I returned to California to study Engineering Physics at UC Berkeley, Melysa remained in Connecticut to receive her degree from UConn in Biomedical Engineering.
I currently live in Oakland's Lake Merrit area just over the Bay Bridge from the world's greatest city, San Francisco, where Melysa resides with her soon-to-be husband, Michael.
Melysa and I both like philosophy, technology and science, cooking and eating good food, and traveling. I hope this blog can become a place for us to channel these interests by posting random thoughts, good technical advice for would-be developers, recipes for great food, advice for travelers, and anything else that might come up. I found blogs like this invaluable when building this site, and I hope I can repay the community back in kind by adding the extra bits of advice that caused the loss of hours of time and clumps of perfectly good hair.
I'm still working on adding to the projects page where I hope to make any interesting creations I've made public and open source. Please check back for new posts and updates. I'll try to keep it interesting!
